wow, those sides are not wood are they, that is soo close to tiger skin its unbelievable. Looks just like the underbelly, carefull when you get it you don't get clawed.. By the way, tigers like water so it should be ok in your shop Hesh

I'm using tiger myrtle bindings on my latest. A nice thing about this wood - the pores are so small you don't need to fill them

Hesh, I've only bent four bindings (all at the same time) so I'm not an expert with this wood by any means. That said, it bent really well, I took it very slowly 'cause I wasn't positive it wouldn't snap at the waist. I used a fox bender with light bulbs, I think more heat would have made me more comfortable, dunno if it would have made bending any better though. James, this is Tasmanian Myrtle (Nothofagus cunninghamii) also called Myrtle Beech. It's not at all related to your northern hemisphere myrtle as far as I am aware. |

Hey Hesh, wipe some alcohol or naptha on there to see what it can look like under a finish. It takes on a whole different character to it. It's simply amazing under finish. It darkens up and looks spectacular. You're gonna love it. I have several sets from this board, and access to lots more:

I think I would pick the darkest color in that wood and find a solid binding of that hue. Maybe a dark rosewood would be nice with an interesting purfling to match. |
